Why yes, I have new shoes on.
And best of all, my new shoes have SHEEP on them!
I've been waiting ages for Zappos.com to get these in my size again, and now they are MINE!!!! Doesn't that little black sheep just make you all warm and fuzzy inside?
I've made a decision about the shawl with the evil pooling. I'm going to keep knitting it, and over dye after I finish with blue or green. To hedge my bets, I've started another Mystic Waters in a much prettier solid green lace weight single from handpaintedyarn.com. It's amazing how much more I like this pattern when I can actually see it. I think I've upgraded from pattern "like" to pattern "love." Pictures coming as soon as I have enough knit on it to show.

I feel like the fairy godmother.
I spent most of today getting Alex ready to go the the Marine's Birthday Ball. I was going to go this year, but they kept changing their minds about if childcare was going to be provided and where, so I eventually just said screw it and decided to stay home. I look better in jeans than formal wear anyway. Since I already had the camera out, I also took pictures of a shawl i recently finished and my current work in progress. The red stole is Scheherazade (purchased pattern from Pink Lemon Knits) in a mystery red cashmere lace weight I got off of eBay last year. It's so light and soft, and I have enough left for at least one more shawl. Yay! The pin holding it on was my birthday present from Alex, it's the feather pin from here http://www.designsbyromi.com/pages/snssellsheet2.htm . Her shawl pins were featured in Vogue knitting this year, and she also designed Muir from the fall Knitty. Highly recommended.
And this is my Mystic Waters shawl, about halfway through clue three. It looks like a stripy blob. The pattern itself is lovely, and the yarn is dreamy, I'm just not sure about the colors. Maybe I'll try over dying it once I'm done with a darker blue. Knit in Shimmer from Knitpicks in Morning Mist.
On the health front, my hands are still a bother, and severely limit my knitting time, which explains the only one WIP. I have an orthopedic appointment on the 19th, we'll know more then.
I'm also starting college this fall (finally!). I'm signed up for and English and a math course online, and now that I'm actually doing it I'm nervous as hell. I haven't had to really learn anything in almost ten years. I'm not sure my brain still works. Guess we'll find out in January!

Stuff and things
I finally hooked up my camera, so I have things to post about! First, I got a terrific package in the mail on Tuesday. My Hurricane sock pal outdid herself, I was squeeing the entire time I was unwrapping all the little bundles.
Here we have, in list form:
A copy of Charmed Knits (already made a house stripe beret from here, totally worth it if you're thinking about getting it)
Weavers Wool quarters in Clearwater, a lovely blend of blues
A pair of purple size 9 straight needles
A set of size 1 Lantern Moon double points (squeeeee!)
A set of needle holder charms with clovers
A kacha counter (I'm considering getting this permanently attached)
Marine themed scrapbook stuff (perfect for my Ode to Hubby book)
The Mom mood monitor ( kinda like a mood ring magnet, Hubby is gonna get a kick out of this)
Snacks: Two boxes of Slim Jims (the best of cheap jerky, love it), Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans (not brave enough to try these yet), and Jelly Slugs (hehe)
And best of all, Rock and Weave Socks from Socks that Rock in the Farmhouse colorway! I can hardly wait to get started! Thank you so much to Jen, you're amazing!
Be still my heart, is that a finished object? Why yes, these are the first of four sets of Harry Potter dragon socks. These are in the Hungarian Horntail colorway from Sunshine Yarns (look for them on Etsy, totally worth it). The pattern is Here There Be Dragons (available online, I suck at linking even if my old computer hadn't eaten it).
Here they are again, lounging with my just finished House scarf and beret (book Ravenclaw, thank you very much).
It's been a very HP update, hasn't it? No worries, I only have one more current Potter project, and it's been put on hold until I finish a pair of socks for my great aunt. At least, I say it is. Anyone believe that it will stay that way?

I'm getting so old!
My oldest son lost his first two teeth this week. I got to play tooth fairy for the first time. It's cute and amazing and depressing at the same time. Now the younger one is walking around trying to get his teeth to wiggle so he can be just like Bubba.
I caught them being really sweet tonight at bedtime. I tucked them into separate beds, and when I came back they were both in the same bed, and sharing a book while the oldest read aloud. Why don't they ever do things like that when they know i'm looking?
I'm still dealing with the needy and forlorn, but I've started to accept that those are the types of people that are drawn to me. It could be worse. I could be needy and forlorn, instead of passive-aggressive and determinedly cheerful.
