Wow, I've seen more of these than I assumed I had (the ones in bold). Maybe I'll rent some of the others while Alex is deployed (again). Yup, it's that time again, only this time no war zones. I'll fill in more when I know more, so far I just know he's going to Japan after the first of the year.

I wouldn't be so annoyed about this, if it weren't coming at the worst possible time for me. I saw an orthopedist last week about my hands, and now we're talking tests and surgery on both sides. How, I ask you, am I supposed to have surgery on my hands that puts me out of commission for at least two weeks and possibly longer?

No new knitting to speak of, the weather changing has my hands upset. I'm getting 10 rows done on a good day. Does anyone remember what I used to do with my spare time before knitting? I'm bored, and netflix and the library are wearing thin.

Since I have no pretty yarn pictures, I shall distract you with the cuteness that is my children. Ben just didn't understand how Nick could possibly want to sleep.

Why yes, I have new shoes on.

And best of all, my new shoes have SHEEP on them!

I've been waiting ages for Zappos.com to get these in my size again, and now they are MINE!!!! Doesn't that little black sheep just make you all warm and fuzzy inside?

I've made a decision about the shawl with the evil pooling. I'm going to keep knitting it, and over dye after I finish with blue or green. To hedge my bets, I've started another Mystic Waters in a much prettier solid green lace weight single from handpaintedyarn.com. It's amazing how much more I like this pattern when I can actually see it. I think I've upgraded from pattern "like" to pattern "love." Pictures coming as soon as I have enough knit on it to show.

I feel like the fairy godmother.

I spent most of today getting Alex ready to go the the Marine's Birthday Ball. I was going to go this year, but they kept changing their minds about if childcare was going to be provided and where, so I eventually just said screw it and decided to stay home. I look better in jeans than formal wear anyway. Since I already had the camera out, I also took pictures of a shawl i recently finished and my current work in progress. The red stole is Scheherazade (purchased pattern from Pink Lemon Knits) in a mystery red cashmere lace weight I got off of eBay last year. It's so light and soft, and I have enough left for at least one more shawl. Yay! The pin holding it on was my birthday present from Alex, it's the feather pin from here http://www.designsbyromi.com/pages/snssellsheet2.htm . Her shawl pins were featured in Vogue knitting this year, and she also designed Muir from the fall Knitty. Highly recommended.
And this is my Mystic Waters shawl, about halfway through clue three. It looks like a stripy blob. The pattern itself is lovely, and the yarn is dreamy, I'm just not sure about the colors. Maybe I'll try over dying it once I'm done with a darker blue. Knit in Shimmer from Knitpicks in Morning Mist.
On the health front, my hands are still a bother, and severely limit my knitting time, which explains the only one WIP. I have an orthopedic appointment on the 19th, we'll know more then.

I'm also starting college this fall (finally!). I'm signed up for and English and a math course online, and now that I'm actually doing it I'm nervous as hell. I haven't had to really learn anything in almost ten years. I'm not sure my brain still works. Guess we'll find out in January!
